Tongues, Signs and Prophecies

The Detroit Church does not practice the use of sign gifts such as speaking in other tongues and healing the sick.

Nor do we practice the revelatory gifts such as prophecy and knowledge. We believe the sign gifts were for a prophesied period of forty years spanning from the public ministry of Christ unto the destruction of Jerusalem. These gifts were for the purpose of confirming the prophetic Word of God then being delivered and for the purpose of convicting the unbelieving Jews.

With the completion of the New Testament under the ministry of the apostles, the prophetic Word of God was complete. Upon the destruction of the nation of Israel and the completion of the prophetic word, the sign gifts and the revelatory gifts ceased.

The New Testament prophesies of an end time use of sign gifts that will be performed by the power of Satan. Hence, we believe that the current exercising of sign gifts is not of the Spirit of God.

Be it understood that this is not an exhaustive statement of the faith of The Detroit Church. It is intended only as a simplified statement of identification. It states our position on several points of doctrine discussed among Bible readers.
